12 Nights at Rotter House by J. W. Ocker came as an unexpected hit for me. As I'm hit or miss with modern haunted house stories, this does feature a crumbling Victorian mansion, a sordid and sinful past, and a certain degree of ghost hunting to be had. So, a certain amount of this story is forever trapped in the past. It also features a writer, Felix, for the main character so I was sold. Felix is our morbid travel writer and unreliable narrator all in one.
