It's hard to find anybody that doesn't know this song. Wanna Be A Baller came out when I was 10 years old. It was one of the first rap songs I remember falling in love with. Seeing it stand the test of time makes me appreciate it that much more. I was bummed to see Willie D upset that the south doesn’t get recognition in conversation. I’ll be the first to admit that New York Hip Hop and rap is my favorite, with Snoop and Dre not too far behind. But the east, west, south, midwest, all had amazing contributions and this is to let you know we and I do love the South. “The South got something to say” What’s crazy is I have loved this song for 20+ years….started writing this remix 6 years ago…and didn’t realize until I started this project, that Willie D was featured on Lil Troy’s Sittin’ Fat Down South album (just one track, and I was 10 so I wasn’t exploring albums yet). I had never listened to the entire album but my other favorite track was “Chop Chop Chop” Underground CLASSIC. But it really hit me and stood out because I was so young, I didn’t know who all these guys were at that time. I am familiar with Willie D from the Geto Boys and Texas but had no clue he was on the album too. Awesome. 💪 Shoutout to Lil Troy, and Yungstar who has one of my favorite opening verses ever. I had to write my own version because I love it that much. And FYI, I can’t sing, never tried… I DGAF. Really no one can freak this chorus like Big T did!
