Opening the island to visitors [Factorio]

I'm trying out island gameplay, and I specifically wanted to start playing the game with an island that basically had a moat around it, preventing biters from getting anywhere near my stuff until I'm ready for them. THIS is when I'm ready for them: Funnel them into the turrets! Eventually, once I've built up enough, I want to use this as the main way trains get on and off the island, but for now, it's just a landfill bridge.
