How to perform SLOW drop-offs on your mountain bike - a step by step tutorial of different ways to drop down from obstacles at slow speeds. In this Video I teach you the wheelie drop and the back wheel hop drop. WHY use the wheelie drop? 1. It's fun ;-) 2. Its a pretty easy trick to drop off a non-rollable height at very slow speed. WHY use the back wheel hop drop?? 1. It’s fun ;-) 2. it’s a very advanced skill originating from trials mountain biking. If you look at videos by Fabio Wibmer or Danny MacAskill - when they jump off a high ledge, they use mostly this technique (in much more perfection - obviously 😊) 3. Landing over the rear wheel is MUCH safer than landing over the front or both wheels when you are dropping at SLOW speed (or standstill) - because it enables you to absorb the landing with the feet (=strong muscles) first, and then with the rest of the body. Again, if you look at trials riders who drop from BIG heights, they will always land over their rear tire. 4. Also when landing in rocky and rooty terrain - this technique (in contrast to the 3/4 punch technique, which leaves you with your non-preferred foot at the front) is perceived as much safer and more natural for most riders I have coached. Because landing is an impact - so we want to have our preferred stance to use the muscles we usually train. 5. With the back wheel hop drop a rider has much more precision. Because you can jump farther after coming to a standstill at the edge. For example if you want to jump off the edge and land on a tin (trials trick) - then this is the technique of choice. The wheelie drop won’t work then.
