Oregonians might get $500 in eight minutes

Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek, D-Portland, and Senate President Peter Courtney, D-Salem, hold a press conference via Zoom to discuss the $500 payments that the state is making available to Oregonians waiting on unemployment benefits. Hundreds of people had applied within hours of the program being announced this morning. Kotek and Courtney proposed the program four-and-a-half weeks ago because of the backlog at the Oregon Employment. Eight credit unions and two banks are participating.
